Prior to the elections Chris Bowen met with Jane Bremmer from the National Toxics Network and undertook to review the Commonwealth subsidies and grants provided to companies for environmental, clean energy projects as many were not meeting requirements. Following his appointment in the new Government No More Incinerators has written to the Minister to confirm that the review will occur and also to request that the allocation of Carbon Credits to companies burning waste or Process Engineered Fuel (PEF) be prevented.
Why is this important? In many cases these subsidies are the only way these companies can make their businesses viable. Allocating Carbon Credits also acts as a subsidy improving their bottom line and further damaging the environment.
But we can’t do this on our own and numbers count.
We need you to write to the Minister requesting that he reviews the current grants and subsidies being paid to these companies and acts to prevent companies burning waste being allocated Carbon Credits.
