We’re almost at the end of 2021 and what a year No More Incinerators has had!
With over 30,000 flyers letterboxed during two lock downs and 400 corflute posters displayed around the Randwick and Bayside LGAs (email us at email@example.com for how to get yours) it’s been a fantastic effort. And we’ll have a whole new, easy to read flyer ready for the New Year so keep an eye out for it!
Multiple resolutions opposing waste incineration passed at the Inner West, Bayside and Randwick Councils. We reached out to Bayside and Western Sydney residents through live interviews conducted with the Sydney Community Studio and Facebook live broadcasts. Despite the lock downs we’ve managed two media events – one outside Suez’s shopfront eyesore in Matraville and another at the beautiful La Perouse Pony Club – just meters from OPAL’s site.
We’ve worked with, and continue to support other like-minded groups in Ipswich, Western Sydney, Newcastle, Bungonia and Tarago (please sign the Communities Against the Tarago Incinerator’s e-petition here) – and thanks to Gordon’s sterling work setting up his petition, almost 19,000 concerned Sydney residents have signed our petition to confirm their opposition to Suez and OPAL’s harmful proposal!
And the best news of all – Suez pulling down their eyesore shopfront in the heart of Matraville just this week!
But the fight continues!
Suez and OPAL have NOT withdrawn their proposal. So, in January 2022, No More Incinerators takes its campaign to the beaches where we’ll be handing out flyers each Sunday to the thousands of visitors who flock to our beautiful beaches from all parts of Sydney. We’ll also be selling our T-shirts (yes, they’ve finally arrived) and fabulous bumper stickers, so stay tuned to find out the locations.
From the team at No More Incinerators, a heartfelt thank you to our local resident and printer, Leigh who donated so much and did such a fantastic job printing the banner, posters and leaflets for our campaign, our Randwick and Bayside Councillors who’ve been so supportive, and to Josh and the team at Randwick Council for their ongoing support and help throughout the year. And to you our valued supporters, whose herculean efforts letterboxing flyers and continuing donations have made all this possible and we look forward to continuing the fight, with you by our side in the New Year!
Best wishes to all for a safe and happy XMAS and New Year!
